Alphonse Mucha is a Czech born artist. He settled in Paris in 1894 and created his first poster masterpiece for famed contemporary playwright, Sarah Bernhardt. She henceforth favored him as her sole poster artist in addition to having him design sets and costumes for her plays. Mucha was renowned for taking popular motifs of the day, like Japanese and Celtic, and adding the Byzantine and esoteric lines which were becoming trendy in his time. He is credited with having recreated the Art Nouveau art.
